Manningham, Bradford - Inner- City Birding

Swallows: Following on from Josh Selfe’s report on July 27th,   I was on a stroll with friends along the canal from East Riddlesden to Silsden.  Southeast of the Brunthwaite Bridge, East side of the canal there were 20 or more swallows with young congregating on a dead tree adjacent to other deciduous trees.  This was on the edge of fields surrounding a farm.  Possibly gathering before taking off on the late summer migration?

Dunnocks in our garden at 37 Wilmer Road, Manningham: 2 parent birds feeding a fledgling.  This is the 3rd fledgling seen this year – confirming 3 broods this year.   For each brood, one fledgling has survived. (I’m aware that dunnocks have a reputation for being promiscuous so don’t know if it’s the same male for each brood!).   As the garden is small, that of an inner back-to-back, and that birds use our neighbour’s garden also, observations suggest there is only one territory.
