Harold Park Lake - Black-headed Gull seen showing Norwegian colour ringing. History is that the bird returned to Norway in 2016, then migrated back to Low Moor in 2017.

Bingley to Saltaire along River Aire - 11 Goosander, Little Grebe at Wagon Lane stretch & also on rowing length at Hirst Wood. Dippers at Cottingley Road Bridge & near new road bridge. Kingfisher at Myrtle Park, Sparrowhawk, Redwings & Nuthatch recorded. At Roberts Park it was bathing time for the 196 Canada Geese. 8 Moorhen counted on the walk indicating the attraction of the river during freezing conditions.

Stockbridge Reserve (members only) - 2 Snipe, flock of 10 Redpoll came down to drink under willows as small area ice free. Water Rail on ice, 2 Fieldfare flew east as did a dozen Lapwing. 3 Cormorants flew west. Reed Buntings to the feeder.

Yeadon Tarn - 13 Tufted Duck, flock of 40 Goldfinch on Alders & despite 60% iced water, Kingfisher seen. A few Redwing searched for food at the cemetery plus Sparrowhawk.
Knotford Nook - 35 Wigeon, at least 10 Goldeneye, 2 GCG, 12 Tufted, Red Kite & pair of Goosander.
Private Wetlands (permit holders only) - Buzzard, Red Kite, single Snipe flushed, 60 Lapwing circling in a flock, 20 Siskin on Alders, 6 Reed Bunting plus Little Egret on river. Same ducks as Knotford Nook.

Glovershaw/Sconce walk - Buzzard, Kestrel, Sparrowhawk, Little Owl, pair of Reed Bunting, with
87 Greylag grazing at Glovershaw. Also 2 Grey Heron flew over, one with a damaged leg which trailed down below the bird.
At 10.40 a flock of Pinkfoot Geese flew towards me from the east. The leading skein held 120 birds with two trailing skeins of 30 & 20. The birds flew directly over going west.

Stockbridge Reserve (members only) - lake completely frozen. Water Rail slid past under the willows. Surprise visitor was a Kingfisher but soon left! A Cormorant flew up the valley. Where are all the finches? Heard a Bullfinch only but no Greenfinch, Chaffinch or Goldfinch. Siskin & Redpoll not on the feeders yet.
Later, a male Sparrowhawk glided from the riverbank trees and settled in the willows. It stayed for some time preening whilst Great Tits & Blue Tits returned to the feeder without fear.
Forgot to mention the 4 Herring Gull down on the ice searching the edges for any food. Some BHG & Common Gulls also on the ice.

Stockbridge Reserve (members only) - At 10.50 a flock of 70 Pinkfoot flew high going west.
On the reserve, 24 species recorded including 2 Cormorant on the water, Reed Bunting, Jay, Sparrowhawk, Grey Heron, Greenfinch & Goldfinch. Still a few Red Admirals & White Butterflies about. No sign of Water Rail.

At 7am, a male Merlin flew very low over the Golf Course and headed towards the Glen Road.  A Sparrowhawk jousted with a Raven, and a male Kestrel and a Common Buzzard were both over the Pennithorn side of the moor.  Three Wheatears fed from the walls by Golcar Farm.

On a beautiful morning, two Spotted Flycatchers and a Whitethroat were present.  In the fields two Wheatears were feeding and a juvenile Common Buzzard flew onto a telephone pole.  A second Whitethroat was on bracken at the end of Birch Close Lane.

A male Yellow Wagtail was watched bathing in a stony mid-stream section of the river.

Seen in the area: Nuthatch, Red Kite, Common Gull, Herring Gull, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Little Owl, Grey Partridge, Swallow, House Martin, Curlew, Lapwing, Willow Warbler, Blackcap, Oystercatcher, Jay and female Mallard with new brood.
This bald crowned Blue Tit is a regular on the feeders, either heavy post-breeding wear or or a feather problem.

A Red Kite drifted south over Cross Lane, Birkenshaw at 12:15pm.

Lesser Black-backed gull with trout which was probably carrion, though I have often seen them dive into shallow water to catch large single crayfish.  About a month ago I saw one attack a family of mandarins and fly off with a duckling.  Also seen were Tawny Owl, Tree Pipit, Stock Dove (pair), up to seven Red Kites circling over newly cut meadow. A Raven was seen briefly and four Snipe.

Baildon Moor
A walk around the northern slopes of the moor: four pairs of Linnets, eight male Reed Buntings and a male Bullfinch.  A male Stonechat was seen by the quarry and a juvenile female was near the cabins at Pennithorn.  Adult Oystercatchers and their brood were once more at the "reservoirs" and a Cuckoo was heard from Faweather Grange area.
