River Wharfe between Gallows Hill and Knotford Nook
A male Yellow Wagtail was watched bathing in a stony mid-stream section of the river.

Seen in the area: Nuthatch, Red Kite, Common Gull, Herring Gull, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Little Owl, Grey Partridge, Swallow, House Martin, Curlew, Lapwing, Willow Warbler, Blackcap, Oystercatcher, Jay and female Mallard with new brood.
This bald crowned Blue Tit is a regular on the feeders, either heavy post-breeding wear or or a feather problem.

A Red Kite drifted south over Cross Lane, Birkenshaw at 12:15pm.

Beamsley to Hazlewood
Lesser Black-backed gull with trout which was probably carrion, though I have often seen them dive into shallow water to catch large single crayfish.  About a month ago I saw one attack a family of mandarins and fly off with a duckling.  Also seen were Tawny Owl, Tree Pipit, Stock Dove (pair), up to seven Red Kites circling over newly cut meadow. A Raven was seen briefly and four Snipe.

Baildon Moor
A walk around the northern slopes of the moor: four pairs of Linnets, eight male Reed Buntings and a male Bullfinch.  A male Stonechat was seen by the quarry and a juvenile female was near the cabins at Pennithorn.  Adult Oystercatchers and their brood were once more at the "reservoirs" and a Cuckoo was heard from Faweather Grange area.

Stainburn to Swinsty walk - wet conditions made bird watching difficult. Waders seen were Oystercatcher, Lapwing & 2 Redshank. Both Red Kite & Buzzard recorded. Redstart & Whitethroat heard just below Scargill Reservoir along with Bullfinch & Grey Wagtail.

Heights Lane, Bingley - breeding Gt & Blue Tits, Swallow, Song Thrush (4), Goldfinch, Herring Gull, Mistle Thrush (bred), Blackbird (bred), Pheasant pair with juvs, Lapwing, Curlew, Pied Wagtail, Snipe, Oystercatcher (may have bred), House Martin, Kestrel, Grey Heron, Little Owl, Jay plus Roe Deer & Wood Mouse?

Stockbridge Reserve (members only) - singing birds were Blackcap, Garden Warbler, Chiff-Chaff, Reed Bunting & Sedge Warbler. Recently fledged young seen - Great Tit, Collared Dove & Reed Bunting. Up to 3 Bullfinch came to the feeders. Seven L B B were joined by a Herring Gull on the fast diminishing lake. There is a definite drop in Swift in this area. The birds usually breed in the nearby houses but hardly one to be seen.

Stockbridge Reserve (members only) - 2 singing Whitethroat, one appears now to have a mate. Pair of Bullfinch at the feeders & several Reed Buntings active in the reed bed.
The recent heavy downpours appear to have seen off both the Reed Warbler and the two Sedge Warblers. Both Blackcaps & Chiff-Chaffs were singing this morning.

Heather Park, St Ives - second visit re BTO Woodcock Monitoring Survey produced 22 sightings in the 75 minutes. On three occasions there were two birds roding together & once three birds were up. How many birds were involved in anybody's guess!

Strid Wood
A Wood Warbler was singing in the beech wood below the Strid. Other species included three Common Sandpipers, Oystercatcher, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Grey Wagtail, Redstart, two Garden Warblers, at least four Spotted Flycatchers and numerous Pied Flycatchers.  Heard, but seen were Cuckoo, Green Woodpecker, Siskin and Redpoll.

BOG walk - Beecroft Plantation & Timble - 48 Species recorded including a family of 4 Common Sandpiper on Fewston Reservoir, pair of Spotted Flycatcher in Beecroft along with two Garden Warbler, Blackcaps & Redstart plus GSW carrying food.  Timble area produced good views of Tree Pipit, Siskin, distant sightings of Buzzard & Red Kite, Grey Wagtail, Linnet & pair of Lesser Redpoll & a Whitethroat.
Many birds were singing throughout the walk such as Willow Warbler, Chiff-Chaff, Redstart, Song Thrush, Goldcrest, Blackcap, Garden Warbler, Siskin, Skylark, Goldfinch.  Lapwing with two chicks seen in fields towards Timble village.

Stockbridge Reserve (members only) - Chiff- Chaff family, at least 2 Sedge Warblers singing, Reed Warbler, Reed Bunting, Bullfinch, GSW, Blackcap, 2 Whitethroat singing.

A Red Kite was seen with prey, a pair of Stonechat were near the quarry and a pair of Linnet were feeding on the Golf Course.  A Tree Sparrow flew towards the reservoir.

Stockbridge Reserve (members only) - Reed Warbler still singing from main reed bed but now a Sedge Warbler is in the thin line of reeds next to the ditch. There are two singing Whitethroat on the reserve. Other birds - Blackcap, Bullfinch, Garden Warbler, Chiff-Chaff, Reed Bunting, Sand Martins, Swifts & Swallows.

There was a pair of Stonechats near the quarry (2nd tee), where pairs have traditionally nested.  In the area,  around the northern area of Baildon Moor, breeding pairs included Linnets, Dunnocks, Reed Buntings and Red Grouse.  15 singing Willow Warblers were counted on the walk.  A pair of Red Kites flew over Pennithorn and a pair of Whitethroats had established themselves where the Grasshopper Warblers bred successfully last year.  A few Swifts went by, Meadow Pipits were carrying food and a small flock of Starlings with juveniles was seen near the plantation.

Also Common Whitethroat, Common Sandpiper (stayed all morning), Willow Warbler, Swallow, Blackcap, Sand Martin, Goosander (female came on to the water from nest box), Bullfinch, Reed Warbler, Reed Bunting, Chiff-Chaff, Kestrel.

Bingley Moor - pair of Wheatear, just a single Golden Plover, noisy Greylags & Cuckoo heard from Graincliffe Reservoir direction. No other plovers seen around Twelve Apostles.

In wet and windy conditions, three Snipe flew over the Glen Road, another sat on a wall at Golcar Farm and others could be heard drumming.  An area in an adjacent field contained a female Whinchat, a male Wheatear, Skylark and a male Reed Bunting, all sheltering from the strong wind.  A pair of Stock Doves rested by their nest-box and a Cuckoo could be heard over at Pennythorn.

At Pennythorn this morning, there were 12 singing male Willow Warblers and three Wheatears on the Golf Course.  At least eight Lapwing chicks were seen at Golcar.

A Cuckoo was heard at Pennythorn and there were 10 Wheatears, here and across the Golf Course. A male Whinchat was feeding in the fields by Golcar farm where the first Lapwing chick was visible. Other sightings across the area included two pairs of Linnets, two pairs of Reed Buntings, displaying Snipe, Curlew and plenty of Meadow Pipits and Skylarks.

Wheatears are moving through in good numbers.
At least six pairs of Skylarks are now breeding on the top of Pennythorn Hill.

At least three pairs of Reed Bunting can be seen.

Willow Warblers arrived on about the 9th April.
